DIY Alcohol Stove

Hello, Here is one of my favorite Youtubers, 'HillbillysNdaBush' who gives detailed instructions on how to make your own alcohol stove. These stoves are great to have in your pack, tackle box, trunk, or even just tucked away in your pantry for when storms knock the power out and you need to cook a quick meal. It runs on denatured alcohol or 91% rubbing alcohol that can be purchased at the grocery store. It is a clean burning stove, so it can be used in the house without danger of fumes, as long as you are careful of fires. Thanks for watching!

Jill Guidry's Catfish Pie

Well folks, our first guest blogger submission is from Jill Guidry with her recipe of Catfish Pie!
It looks great, I can't wait to try it. Thanks for your submissions, Jill!

Recipe for White Sauce

Ingredients:
1 cup milk
2 bay leaves
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons flour
Pinch salt and white pepper
2 garlic cloves, crushed

Directions In a small saucepan, heat the milk and 1 bay leaf to a gentle simmer, stirring so it doesn’t scorch the bottom of the pan. Keep the milk on low heat. Make a white roux by melting butter over low-medium heat in a thick-bottomed saucepan. Just as the foam subsides, add the flour, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or whisk to prevent lumps. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes to coat the flour and remove the starchy taste. Do not allow to brown. Remove from heat, then gradually add a bit of the warm milk to the roux and whisk vigorously. Return the saucepan to the heat and bring up to a low simmer, continuing to add more milk and whisk. Cook for 5 minutes until sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Check seasoning; add salt, white pepper, garlic and the remaining bay leaf. To prevent a skin from forming as the sauce cools, lay a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface.

Catfish Pie

Ingredients
1 1/2- 2 pounds skinned catfish fillets
1/2 pint of cider with parsley and thyme in it
salt fresh ground black pepper

3. Cook the potatoes in the fish liquid until they get tender drain them and set them aside.

4. Add all the liquid to the white sauce and stir in the garlic.

Hello, to all my fishing buddies!

Hello, I just wanted to say "HI" and let you know that I am indeed, still alive and kicking, and so is the baby! So far, so good. We are now into our 5th month and so excited! I do wish to thank all of you who have left me such great comments with love and prayers included! These comments really do lift me up when I am feeling low. It has been a difficult summer for me, since I have not been able to do much fishing this year. I know it is for my own good that I skip fishing for a while, but it is very, very hard. That is all I am going to say about that.

I have found it awful difficult to find things to talk about on this blog, since it is a fishing blog and I cannot go fishing at this time. I do not wish to change the nature of this blog and I do not plan to, but I also will be giving updates on the baby and other things that may come to mind. The main focus will still be fishing, but please don't be offended if I talk about other things as well. I will also be sharing videos that I find, that are interesting. I want to thank you for all your love, understanding and support. Thank you for supporting Catfishchic's Fishing Blog!

Happy Fishing,

"The Official Getaway Capital of Texas" is Lake Whitney!

Today, I would like to share a great vacation spot with you. Lake Whitney has been officially designated as "The Official Getaway Capital of Texas"! Enjoy camping, lots of public access for fishing, lots of public boat ramps for boating, hunting, sight-seeing, scuba diving, wildlife, bird-watching, sailing, swimming, We have the color changes in fall, we have year-round wildlife, we have golf, we have facilities here for corporate retreats, hotels, motels, lodges, and other accomodations in both Hill and Bosque County, and much more. The natural beauty of Lake Whitney is one of the area’s many assets. The lake offers 225 miles of shoreline and 37 square miles of water, is 45 river-miles long, and is up to four miles wide. Whitney is all limestone, so it consists of all deep, blue water, and there is nowhere near as much watercraft traffic as other popular lakes. The lake was the place to go in the 1950s and 1960s, but then they built all those other lakes up in the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex, and Lake Whitney was sort of forgotten. This lake is not overpopulated with people, so it is the perfect lake! I do hope that more folks get the chance to visit the lake. I love it here and it is a wonderful home too! I am a proud member of the community. Thanks, for taking the time to read my post!

Meet my little fishing buddy, Alvin!

I would like you to meet Alvin, my little fishing buddy. He is just the best fishing buddy! I do alot of my fishing alone, so I take Alvin with me. He lets me know if someone else is around. Nobody will be able to approach without me knowing about it. That is a good thing because I do alot of night fishing in a secluded area. My husband does not enjoy fishing anymore so I have come to rely on Alvin for security. I would like to encourage all of you to be aware of your surroundings while night fishing and fishing in the daylight hours as well. Women that fish alone have to be aware, more so than a man, but everyone should think about these things, men and women alike. Always let someone know where you are fishing and when to expect your return. Make sure that you have your cell phone with you and make sure it has a strong signal, in case you have to call for help. You just never know what might happen while you are out on your adventure. Alvin really enjoys going fishing with me. He stands watch as I enjoy my catfishing. He enjoys being nosey as well. He has to smell every bait that I use. He is so funny. He plays with the minnows, shad and other bait fish that swim around in the shallows. Just becareful that your fishing buddy doesn't accidently get hooked with stray fishing hooks.

Happy Fishing!
